BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, “Emperor”
Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 opens in majesty and continues in a warm, expressive glow—captivating, elegant, and ending in one of his most ebullient finales. Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto dates from Napoleon’s siege of Vienna and is filled with strife and heroism. Renowned specialist in Baroque and Classical music Nicholas McGegan conducts an energetic symphony by a composer deeply admired by both Mozart and Beethoven, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
