Portland'5 believes that art has the power to build understanding and bring people together. It’s how we see ourselves—and each other—more clearly.
Through our Department of Culture and Community, Portland'5 works to make vibrant experiences for everyone. We do this through two core programs: the Community and Cultural Arts Program and the Youth Arts Program. These efforts, along with initiatives throughout the organization, aim to celebrate traditions that ground us and visions that carry us forward.

Community and Cultural Arts Program
Bringing together artists, cultural organizations, and community groups to present experiences reflecting a wide variety of stories and opportunities to engage in the Arts. Through concerts, film screenings, artist talks, and a myriad of performances, the program creates pathways that lead to positive social impact.
Guided by the Community and Cultural Arts Council, a collective of local creatives and advisors, the program continues to evolve through meaningful partnerships and shared vision.

Youth Arts Program
This program is about empowering young people to be movers in the performing arts through leadership, creativity, and mentoring. At its heart is the Youth Arts Council, a group of youth (ages 16–25) who are compensated to guide programming, curate events, and make budgetary decisions while continuing to learn arts administration and production.
Key initiatives include:- Up & Coming: a youth-led theater event featuring paid youth vendors and performers.
- Youth Matinees: live performances for schools and community groups at low or no cost.
- Masterclasses: workshops with teaching artists, designed with youth input.
The program also provides opportunities for professional growth. Through field trips, behind-the-scenes tours and the Creative Industry Skills Program, young people gain practical experience in theater production, lighting, sound and stage management.
